Obviously, now’s not the time to travel.
But there are some little things you can do to make it feel like you’re on vacation ☀️ at home.
People have been adapting to their new normals the best they can, but we also deserve a much needed break. A little imagination vacation among your chores and work-from-home.
Let this list give you the inspiration and push you need to relax differently.
1. Make a Homemade Piña Colada
First stop: your kitchen. Spanish for “strained pineapple”, this refreshing summertime beverage is a staple when you’re on vacation- particularly to a tropical destination. But it’s also an easy recipe to make from home! Of course there’s different ways to go about creating this sweet surprise, but one recipe we really like is from Gimme Some Oven where you literally only need three ingredients and a blender. Frozen pineapple, white rum, and coconut milk blend together to make a super simple piña colada! For a non-alcoholic option, just replace the white rum with extra pineapple juice or water. Garnish the drink with a pineapple slice, paper umbrella, or cherry for some added fun. Here’s a quick video showing you how to master the world’s most relaxing drink:
2. Create a Hot Playlist
Hot tracks are now boarding. Vacations are synonymous with music and partying, so try your hand at creating a playlist that screams Cabo Rave. We recommend artists like Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Sean Paul, Doja Cat, Calvin Harris… you know what it is. A strong mix of the old with the new. Blast this newly curated playlist around your place with any speaker system you have at hand. Just make sure you don’t get any noise complaints from people who clearly didn’t catch the vibe. Don’t forget to add this song; it just screams summer and vacation.
3. Do a Salsa Dance With Your Quarantine Partner/Roommate
Layover in dance. What better way to introduce International travel to your home than with a suave little salsa dance. When on vacation, you typically go out dancing someplace new. Perhaps, you stumble into a salsa club or studio. And you get swept away in the instructor’s charisma of it all. Now bring that salsa spirit into your own home following a clear online tutorial like this one:
It’s easy to follow and rhythmic, and you’ll probably have a few laughs while getting a workout in. The vacation energy is strong in this one. Bonus: record your attempts and post them on a platform like TikTok, showcasing either the success or fail of your quarantine choreography.
4. Binge Watch International Films
Next stop: TV room. Movies are known to be an escapism, but International films take you even further. Essentially, they take you on a trip and give you cultural perspective. Watching International films can actually make you feel like you’re on vacation for the sheer fact that they’re taking place in places likely on your travel bucket list. And learning bits of another culture’s language along the ride won’t hurt you. You might even be considered “woke”. If you can stand the subtitles, the definitely check out some International films for the ultimate, faraway experience. Maybe take that time as a break after your salsa lessons. We recommend Parasite, Roma, The Lives of Others, Audition, Train to Busan, and Burning. Here’s the trailer for Burning:
5. Fill Your Bathtub With Ice Water and Just Lay In It For As Long As You Can Handle It
Finally, travel to your bathroom. For the more adventurous person, try transforming your bathtub into an ice cold “ocean”. Close your eyes for feelings of paradise. You don’t even have to know how to swim! This cooling sensation might make you believe you’re in another body of water somewhere, or it could just be a therapeutic moment. For more of an all-encompassing effect, have your hot playlist playing with your piña colada near by while you relax like this.
With these tips, we’re sure you’ll be able to catch a vacation feeling in the comfort of your home. What happens in the comfort of your home stays in the comfort of your home.
